Student Services

The Student Services Team work together to enhance every student's chance for success at John Curtin College of the Arts and their life beyond the college.  The team works collaboratively and cooperatively to foster the intellectual, emotional and social development of all students and their right to learn in a safe and healthy environment.

Our range of services include:

  • Pastoral care and mentoring
  • Behaviour and attendance management
  • Facilitation of communication between parents, students and staff at the college
  • Academic support, assessment and monitoring
  • Course and career advice
  • Psychological assessment and counselling
  • Health and wellbeing advice
  • Orientation and transition to high school
  • Organisation of student social activities
  • Propel Program
  • English as a Second Language

The staff of Student Services are professional practitioners qualified in education, health care and/or psychological issues.  The Student Services Team is made up of:

Managers
Two full time Managers oversee and coordinate the activities of the Team and works closely with the Principal and the Deans.

Year Coordinators
Year Coordinators from Years 8 to 12 are available for parental enquiries and concerns.  They are very involved in the pastoral and social care of students.

College Nurse
Medical assistance as well as health and well being advice is readily available from the college nurse.

College Psychologist
Available to listen to and assist students cope with any emotional, social and learning problems.  Psychological assessments are also available.

Careers Coordinator
Advice as to course and career options is available throughout the year.  Course advisors assist by counselling Years 10, 11 and 12 students regarding their subject selections.

Chaplain
Provides pastoral care, relationship and spiritual advice for students, staff and parents in times of need.

 

PROPEL Program
Academic support is provided to students across the curriulum. This program was the winner of the 2001 Norm Hyde Award for Excellence on Pastoral Care in a secondary school.

Cultural and Linguistically Diverse Teacher (CALD

Students from a non-English background are provided with English language support through their Humanities classes.
