Each of the 8 Learning Areas acknowledges the special gifts and interests that all our students possess and strives for an attainment of excellence.
Every Year 8, 9 and 10 student participates in this learning area. The subject of Health Education focuses on prevention, and covers areas of prime importance to adolescents living in a rapidly changing world. The underlying principle of this subject is to produce well-informed young people who can make considered decisions to ensure their good health both now and in the future.
Physical Education is another important aspect of a student's well-being. The activities offered are designed to improve skill levels, increase physical activity levels and to assist in the development of interpersonal skills and general well-being. Research has shown that success in these areas can impact positively on a student's success in other learning areas.
Popular lower school options for students include Outdoor Education, which incorporates activities such as snorkelling, bushcraft, navigation, canoeing and abseiling and Physical Recreation, wich includes beach volleyball, ten pin bowling and golf.
In Years 11 and 12 students have the opportunity to study Physical Education Studies (new course of study for 2007), Health Studies and Outdoor Education. In 2005, our students rated in the best ten schools in the state in these courses.
In addition to the general Health and Physical Education programs, the college offers a Soccer Excellence program which is available through John Curtin College of the Arts' selection process for students in Years 8 to 12. This highly successful program has already produced a number of graduates who have represented Australia and are playing in major soccer leagues throughout the world.
