Between 2014 and 2015 Australia will commemorate the Anzac Centenary, marking 100 years since our nation’s involvement in the First World War.
This was also the first time we held an ANZAC assembly with our new Year 7 and Year 8 students and we commend their behaviour on the day. With nearly 1500 students inside our college hall, you could hear a pin drop throughout the ceremony.
This year the college was also honoured by the RSL of WA who is distributing bugles to high schools to encourage students to learn the instrument and its history. The Vice President of the Sub-Branch, Mr Tony Mitchell, presented the bugle to the Student President of our college, Ms Kira-che Heelan.
“The Returned and Services League of Western Australia is delighted to present these bugles in the year of the Centenary of Gallipoli,”Mr Mitchell said.
“Our ultimate aim is to develop a fully accredited RSL course during which students will need to pass an exam involving the correct execution of several bugle calls including The Last Post and general knowledge questions about the ceremonial protocol and history.”
