Please read through the information below about how the COVID-19 restrictions will apply at the college.

These arrangements are in place until Sunday 14 February 2021.

Does my child have to wear a mask at school?

Yes. It is a legal requirement that all students in secondary schools wear a mask.

My child is in Year 7 (aged 12). Do they have to wear a mask?

Yes. Masks are mandatory. All secondary school students have to wear a mask regardless of their age.

Does my child have to wear a mask on the way to and home from school?


Will the college provide masks for my child?

Your child will need to wear a mask to travel to school and will be wearing one when they arrive. The college will be providing additional reusable masks throughout the day to all students and staff.

What happens if my child forgets or loses their mask?

Your child will be provided with one from the college.

Will my child have to wear a mask at all times while at school?

Yes, except for vigorous exercise. Masks must be on at ALL times inside and outside classrooms. This includes moving between classes, at recess and at lunchtime.

Will my child have to wear a mask during Phys Ed and dance classes?

If these classes involve a high level of physical activity, children can take their masks off when they are engaged in the activity.

Does the 4m square social distancing rule apply to students and staff at school?

No, students and staff do not need to follow this rule.

Will there be extra cleaning at the college?

Ongoing day cleaning and good hygiene practices remain a priority in 2021. There is hand sanitiser provided in every classroom.

Are parents, visitors and tutors allowed onsite?


Do parents and visitors have to use the SafeWA app if they come to the college?

No, normal JCCA sign in and sign out procedures remain in place. School premises are not required to maintain a contact register. All visitors to John Curtin sign in and out at Reception in the Administration building.

Will the official term start date be on Monday?

The college calendar will start from Week 2, Monday 8 February.

Other important information to note:

  • The Canteen will be open.
  • Excursions will take place.
  • Year Assemblies will go ahead.
  • Afterschool and weekend classes will take place as normal.
  • Work placements will go ahead.
