Qualification Description
This is a nationally recognised qualification that provides the individuals with the skills and knowledge to perform in a range of varied activities in the creative industries where there is a clearly defined range of contexts. Students throughout the two years will have the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge in a range of functions in film, television, radio broadcasting and cross platform promotions (online media).
Students will have the opportunity to gain industry experience through on the job training, specialized workshops, industry professional tutorials and exposure to media organisations which will allow students to pursue their specific interests within the industry.
The certificate course covers skills and knowledge in basic camera operations, sound editing, storyboarding, film making, radio broadcasting and publication, social media and knowledge of the creative arts industry. This leads the way for students who want to pursue further studies in media related courses.
Students will be expected to attend after school workshops, media industry intensive camp and specialist weekend workshops throughout the course.
Assessment
The qualification involves learners completing ten units of competency over the two years. These units comprise of core and elective units. The learner must be deemed competent in all ten competencies to achieve the qualification.
Assessment tasks may include but not limited to practical productions and film making, work books, journals, self- reflections, participation in workshops and tutorials, the design and development of scripts, documentaries and broadcasts as well as completing theoretical knowledge questions.
The qualification certificate will be issued by John Curtin College of the Arts at the completion of Year 12.
Please note: Media, Production and Front of House now come under the same certificate qualification of Creative Industries therefore students who would like to do more than one context must consult with Associate Principal Fiona Tholet.
