GAT selected from lower school ballet program.
New students are able to enter the course upon an audition with the HOLA of Dance. This must take place prior to the completion of Year Nine.
NB: students are not able to also select Certificate II in Dance –Contemporary.
This is a nationally recognised qualification that reflects the role of a person working in a varied context in the live performance industry, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge.
Learners throughout the three years will work towards RAD examinations, perform as a member of Project Company and be a member of the colleges simulated professional ballet company. The course will cover ballet technique, repertoire, pointe studies, performance studies (ballet and contemporary), composition, improvisation, conditioning for dance and safe dance practices, history of dance, contextual knowledge, industry practice and protocols, self–evaluation, skills for audition processes and participation in specialist industry workshops. The Ballet timetable operates within and outside the normal timetabled school hours.
The qualification involves learners completing thirteen units of competency over the three years. These units comprise of core and elective units. The learner must be deemed competent in all thirteen competencies to achieve the qualification.
Assessment tasks may include but not limited to practical rehearsals and performances, work books, journals, self- reflections, peer assessment and theoretical knowledge questions.
The qualification certificate will be issued by John Curtin College of the Arts at the completion of Year 12.
