Minimum “C” grade in Physical Education in Year Ten.
This is a nationally recognised qualification that allows individuals to develop basic functional knowledge and skills for work in customer contact positions in the sport or community recreation industry.
Students will have the opportunity to gain experience through assisting with the organization and running of college carnivals, interschool and intra school competitions and sporting teams.
The course covers skills and knowledge in providing first aid, responding to emergency situations, facilitating groups and the planning and management of these groups, working effectively with others and within the sport, fitness and recreation environments. Students will also be given the opportunity to conduct activity sessions with class members to peer groups and lower school students in a sporting environment on a regular basis.
Students will require a physical education uniform and various sports are used as practical sessions to support the theoretical components of the course.
The qualification involves learners completing thirteen units of competency over the two years. These units comprise of core and elective units. The learner must be deemed competent in all thirteen competencies to achieve the qualification.
Assessment tasks may include but not limited to practical demonstrations and performances, observation checklists on performance, work books, log books, self- reflections and theoretical knowledge questions.
Students must be able to maintain diligent record keeping throughout the course.
**This qualification is delivered in partnership with YMCA WA and the certificate will be issued by YMCA at the completion of Year 12.
