Qualification Description

This is a nationally recognised qualification that reflects the role of individuals who apply the skills and knowledge to be competent in delivering a basic instruction session for a sport. Individuals wishing to undertake this qualification should be current or past participants in the respective sport specialization chosen as part of this qualification.

The course covers skills and knowledge in providing first aid, coaching beginners or novices, assisting and preparing for being actively involved in sport sessions, completing Level 4 refereeing qualification, assisting in officiating college soccer games and competitions. Students enrolled in the certificate course will be expected to commit to extra-curricular activities (matches and training) when required. Students will be required to be a referee or assistant referee at various events throughout year 11 and 12 and conduct coaching sessions with both primary and secondary aged students.

This course leads the way for students who want to pursue further studies or career pathways in the sporting industry and allows the student to continue to develop community relationships within football.

 Assessment

The qualification involves learners completing thirteen units of competency over the two years. These units comprise of core and elective units. The learner must be deemed competent in all thirteen competencies to achieve the qualification.

Assessment tasks may include but not limited to practical demonstrations, practical performance, observation checklists on performance, work books, journals, self- reflections and theoretical knowledge questions.

 

**This qualification is delivered in partnership with YMCA WA and the certificate will be issued by YMCA at the completion of Year 12.
