Qualification Description

This is a nationally recognised qualification that reflects the role of individuals who apply a broad range of competencies in the music industry through working independently and in groups to develop their skills and knowledge. This course is practice based, focusing on music theatreperformances while incorporating theoretical aspects.These practical activities will also include ensemble as well as solo performances by the students. The course will cover dance techniques, music culture, music history, musical listening skills and the ability to play or sing.

Students are required to attend workshops, rehearsals and performances outside of the normal school hours.

Students will be expected to participate in a senior musical each year plus a cabaret performance in Year 11.

Students who completed the GAT Music Theatre course in lower school are provided with a continuation of their voice tuition through the IMSS program, 30 minutes per week throughout Years 11 and 12. 

Rehearsal and lesson attendance is a compulsory requirement for students in the Music Theatre program.

Assessment

The qualification involves learners completing 11 units of competency over the two years. These units comprise of core and elective units. The learner must be deemed competent in all 11 competencies to achieve the qualification.

Assessment tasks may include but not limited to individual and group rehearsals and performances, work books, journals, self- reflections, peer assessment, online tasks and theoretical knowledge questions.

The qualification certificate will be issued by COSAMP at the completion of Year 12.
