New students are able to enter this course upon an audition with the Director of Music. Students must be able to read music and play an instrument.
Qualification Description
This is a nationally recognised qualification that reflects the role of individuals who perform a range of mainly routine tasks in the music industry. Students will work independently and in ensemble groups to enhance their talent and abilities required by the music industry. Students will be expected to rehearse and then perform in front of peers, College and community audiences on many occasions.
Students will have the opportunity to experience:
- WAAPA tours;
- attending recording studios and recording original pieces of music;
- solo and group performances;
- participating in industry gigs;
- performing at local primary schools, College lunchtime gigs, College events and community facilities
Students who completed the Enrichment Music course in lower school are provided with a continuation of their instrumental/voice tuition through the IMSS program, 20 minutes per week throughout Years 11 and 12. Ensemble attendance is a compulsory requirement for all Certificate III Music students.
Assessment
The qualification involves learners completing 11 units of competency over the two years. These units comprise of core and elective units. The learner must be deemed competent in all 11 competencies to achieve the qualification.
Assessment tasks may include but not limited to individual and group rehearsals and performances, work books, self- reflections, peer assessment, online tasks and theoretical knowledge questions.
The qualification certificate will be issued by COSAMP at the completion of Year 12.
