In his role as Director of Football Specialist Program Gavin is responsible for the design and delivery of the football curriculum and Football Enrichment program. Gavin creates a positive environment with holistic experiences for all students within the program. He is passionate about facilitating the learning and wellbeing of the 134 students in the program.
Gavin graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Physical Education in 2002. As well as teaching in Fife, Gavin had 5 years’ experience as Principal Teacher of Physical Education at Forrester High School in Edinburgh.
Gavin arrived in Western Australia in 2011 and began teaching at John Curtin College of the Arts in November that year. A Level 3 teacher since 2014, Gavin was instrumental in introducing the Football Enrichment Course within the Football Program and developing the partnership with Perth Glory, Western Australia’s only A League football club.
Gavin’s teaching philosophy is centred around empowering young people to take responsibility for their own learning and development. Both the football curriculum and Enrichment program have football at their core but are designed to provide wider learning experiences to provide students with a range of skills, thereby preparing them for adult life.
Throughout varied learning outcomes and experiences, students in the JC Football Program will become:
· Confident individuals
· Effective Contributors
· Responsible Citizens
· Successful Learners
Gavin completed his AFC/FFA A Licence Coaching Qualification in 2018 and continues to work as a Youth Coach with the Perth Glory Junior Academy on evenings and weekends.
