Christopher Milne is currently completing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree majoring in conducting at the University of Western Australia’s Conservatorium of Music where he also previously earned his Master of Music (conducting) degree. His fieldwork and research included a study exchange with the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall, United Kingdom. Christopher also holds a Diploma of the London College of Music in conducting and was selected as an inaugural ‘Emerging Conductor’ with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
He completed his three-year performance qualifications at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) majoring in Classical Music performance on clarinet and minoring on saxophone. During this time, he served and held the position of Concert Master/Principal Clarinet with the West Australian Youth Symphonic Band. Christopher continued his undergraduate studies for a further two years, graduating with a Bachelor of Music Education at Edith Cowan University, finishing his degree by making the Dean’s Honour Roll.
He has extensively travelled both nationally and internationally as a performer, conductor, adjudicator, and educator, receiving lessons from many world-leading conductors. In addition, Christopher has travelled and presented research papers at conferences, including the Oxford University Conducting Institute International Conducting Studies Conference. He has previously held positions at several Perth Schools and Colleges in the role of Director of Music, classroom teacher, instrumental teacher and ensemble director and served in many professional and community-based music groups as a both performer and director, winning numerous awards and state titles and his compositions for wind band are available via Matt Klohs Publishing. Christopher has also been heavily involved in Music Theatre throughout his career, acting as Musical Director and orchestra member
He serves as a committee member and as the formerVice President for the Australian Band and Orchestra Directors Association and was a long-time committee member and Discipline Head for the Performing Arts Festival for Catholic Schools and Colleges.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children. One of his passions outside of music is training in a variety of Martial Arts, holding Black Belts in both Freestyle Martial Arts Karate (2nd Dan) and Zen Do Kai in addition to training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Muay Thai Kickboxing.
