We are thrilled to announce the incredible success of our talented alumnus, Declan Daines!

Declan, who left John Curtin College of the Arts in 2020, has recently been awarded a prestigious contract with the Queensland Ballet as one of their Young Artists of the Year for 2025.

His journey to this achievement is a testament to his dedication, hard work, and the exceptional training he received at JCCA.

A Glimpse into Declan’s Journey

In his own words:

“My parents say that ever since I could walk, I have been dancing and performing around the house. The arts have been a major part of my life, and at a very young age my parents enrolled me in Gymnastics, Fight choreography, Singing lessons, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary and Ballet. Dance has shaped me into the person I am today. It has given me a sense of meaning and fulfillment in life as I strive to be the best version of me every day. I couldn’t imagine not having dance with me, as it is also a way to communicate how I feel and express myself in an artistic way.”

Declan credits JCCA for providing him with the essential tools and training to excel in his career:

“My time at JCCA, the long hours of training, dedication and determination associated with the Ballet program prepared me well for training and studying full time at The Australian Ballet School. This included the athletic needs for a dancer, while it was also a time of helping me build my confidence and professionalism needed for a dancer. This has aided me in building my career and obtaining employment.”

A Bright Future Ahead

As Declan embarks on this exciting new chapter with the Queensland Ballet, we are confident that he will continue to inspire and amaze audiences with his talent and artistry.

We wish Declan all the best in his future endeavors and look forward to following his career with pride.
