We were honoured to host a Q&A with Admiral Mike Rogers at the College this week! Admiral Rogers shared his perspective on the complex world of cybersecurity with our students, offering unbelievable stories from the breadth of his career. Now a member of CyberCX’s Global Advisory Board, he visited the College for a special Q&A with some of our Year 10 -12 Cybersecurity and Politics & Law students.

Admiral Mike Rogers headed the US National Security Agency (NSA) and commanded US Cyber Command as a four-star Admiral under both President Obama and President Trump. Admiral Rogers has a unique understanding of the world’s most advanced cyber technologies and practices, an intimate knowledge of threat actor behaviours and motivations, and deep insights into how current and emerging geopolitical trends will impact public and private organisations.

He has worked across the military to recruit, train and deploy the special cadre of cyber warriors the U.S relies on to detect and respond to terrorist threats and carry out cyber operations and intelligence on foreign adversaries.

Our students were inspired, entertained and educated by Admiral Rogers, with Year 12 Politics and Law student, Sarah S, stating

“Admiral Rogers was a wonderful speaker to have come to the school. He spoke of so many life lessons I hope I will take these with me for the rest of my life.”

Admiral Mike Rogers

We would like to thank the Assistant Director to our Mathematics Department and Cybersecurity Teacher, Donna Buckley, for organising and facilitating the event.

She summarised the key messages from his speech below

– do what you enjoy

– be accountable for your failures, be truthful, and back up your truth

– every conversation counts, people remember the little things

– support from good mentors and leaders will help you gain success

– but hard work truly makes the difference

– be the change you want to see and look out for each other

Thank you Donna, for embodying so many of these qualities yourself while also encouraging them in our students and community.

Furthermore, this event would not have been possible without the ongoing support of CyberCX who we would like to thank for this incredible opportunity!

And finally a huge thank you to the Admiral for sharing so much knowledge, insight and inspiration with our students!

L-R Admiral Mike Rogers, Ms Donna Buckley, Mr Steve Schupp – Executive Director CyberCX
