We sent our student reviewer, Ashley in Year 7, to tell us her thoughts on Beauty and the Beast – a JCCA Music Theatre performance as part of Bitesize Broadway!

“I am so glad I was able to attend the production “Beauty and the Beast” held at Curtin Theatre at JCCA starring the Musical Theatre GAT students. The amount of talent and professionalism in this one production is out of this world.

As soon as I entered the venue, I knew I was going to have an awesome night. The atmosphere was cheerful and welcoming. The music that was playing was like an introduction to the upcoming performance.

The audience piped down their voices and calmed themselves right when the lights dimmed and the large red curtains parted, signaling the beginning of the show. I loved the narrators that appeared throughout the show. They put so much expression into it, and their language was thoughtful and insightful. And how can we forget the performers themselves? They certainly did not need a microphone. Their voices put me in an unexplainable trance. Such powerful voices like those could earn them a spot in a real Broadway show in the future!

The bedazzling lights and intricate costumes enhanced the performance visually. The colour for the lights choices created a spectacular performance, as they fit the mood for each section perfectly (purple for added mystery, blue for a sense of feeling down). The amount of joy I get by just just looking at the costumes! I must say, the colours and the lacey fabrics really stand out and fit the theme of the storyline. I cannot express this enough: You need to see Beauty and the Beast! The Musical Theatre GAT students really gave it their all, which is heavily appreciated by their audience. Whether or not musical theatre is one of your interests, it can be enjoyed by everyone!”

Although Bitesize Broadway is over for this year, there are plenty of other upcoming performances to check out! Click here to see what’s on at JCCA this term.
