Qualification Description

This is a nationally recognised qualification that reflects the role of individuals who are developing the basic creative and technical skills that underpin visual arts and crafts practice.

Students may enter this qualification with limited or no design experience. The course is recommended for people who wish to work in visual arts related industries such as architecture, product design, industrial design, interior design, interior decoration, graphic design, fashion design, web design, advertising, engineering, animatronics, robotics and the SFX industry (to name a few).

Learners throughout the two years will have the opportunity to develop and refine skills and knowledge to perform a broad range of functions using design principles and processes. Students are introduced to using basic drawing techniques, following a design process and producing computer aided graphics. This course also provides training in project management, the scientific method and the engineering design process.

Assessment

The qualification involves learners completing nine units of competency over the two years. These units comprise of core and elective units. The learner must be deemed competent in all nine competencies to achieve the qualification.

Assessment tasks may include but not limited to specific design projects, individual design projects, knowledge work books, design journal, self and peer assessment, community based STEM projects.
