Prerequisites
GAT selected from lower school ballet or contemporary program.
New students are able to enter the course upon an audition with the Director of Dance. This must take place prior to the completion of Year 10.
NB: students are not able to also select CUA30120 Certificate III in Dance-Ballet.
Qualification Description
This is a nationally recognised qualification that allows learners to develop base technical skills and knowledge to prepare for work in the live performance industry. This is a practical orientated course with theoretical aspects.
Learners throughout the two years will be required to be involved in a range of college productions and performances. The course will cover a range of dance techniques-contemporary, jazz and urban dance, choreography, industry practice and protocols, self–evaluation, personal fitness and specialist industry workshops.
Students will be expected to be involved and participate in afterschool rehearsals and a number of performances throughout the course.
Assessment
The qualification involves learners completing 13 units of competency over the two years. These units comprise of core and elective units. The learner must be deemed competent in all ten competencies to achieve the qualification.
Assessment tasks may include but not limited to practical rehearsals and performances, work books, journals, self- reflections, peer assessment and theoretical knowledge tasks.
The qualification certificate will be issued by John Curtin College of the Arts at the completion of Year 12.
